Behind the Scenes Summer Work

As the final school bell rang for the school year and our students headed off for a well-deserved summer break, the hallways across our district grew quiet, but the work inside our buildings is far from over. In fact, summer remains a busy time of the year for us. While the doors may be closed, the behind the scenes effort to close out the previous school year and meticulously plan for the next is already in full swing.

The first week alone has been a testament to the comprehensive preparation required to keep our district moving forward. We kicked off the week with our school’s financial advisor to closely review our budget, assess the long range budget forecast, and discuss strategies for remaining fiscally sound. Part of that discussion was analyzing our recently updated facility study as we create our long range master plan. This long-range planning is crucial to ensuring that our physical spaces continue to support high quality education and that we remain excellent stewards of your taxpayer dollars for years to come.

Student and staff safety remains our absolute highest priority, and much of this week was dedicated to strengthening those protections. We are creating plans to implement a brand new visitor check-in system, as well as an emergency management system. This will streamline building access and better monitor who enters our schools. Additionally, a school team collaborated with local emergency personnel to review and update our comprehensive emergency preparedness plan, ensuring our team is ready for any scenario.

In addition to the safety work, vision clarity is vital for a smooth school year. Our leadership team has been updating our staff handbooks to align with the latest educational standards and district policies. We are finalizing plans for staff teams to come together in July to create district/building level goals for the upcoming school year. These goals will serve as our roadmap, focusing on academic excellence, student well-being, and our profile of a learner. We are excited to start planning with our staff leaders.

Summer work is a huge team effort involving buildings and grounds personnel, our administrative team, and our office staff who work tirelessly to ensure everything is in great condition and ready for the start of the new school year. We are incredibly proud of the foundation we are building this summer, and we look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to a safer, stronger, and even more vibrant school environment in the fall. In the meantime, go fishing, go biking, go to a baseball game, and have a fantastic summer!
