Principal's Message

Amherst is a community that takes great pride in its schools and the education provided. The district serves approximately 1,200 students, with 325 in grades 5-8. The elementary, middle, and high school are all housed under one roof. The Tomorrow River Community Charter School is located in an off-site location in the district.

In the middle school we will nurture and educate students to be knowledgeable, civic minded, prepared to make ethical decisions, confident, competent communicators, skillful in problem solving, capable of creative thinking, career minded, and possess the skills to succeed in a multicultural global society. Amherst Middle School provides a child-centered environment that is focused on both academic and affective students needs. Middle school students have very unique needs and characteristics during the developmental stage called early adolescence. During this period of physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth, school curriculum will reflect the individuals need to develop a positive personal identity and a healthy value system. We seek a school that will truly bridge the transition from elementary school to high school.

We here at Amherst Middle School want to challenge you to work hard. Try. Take risks. In middle school and beyond, for the rest of your life, from your teachers to your boss, people will be less and less impressed with your intelligence and more and more impressed by your commitment to hard work. Forget about the grades you have gotten in the past, begin middle school as the kid who loves a challenge. I look forward to meeting you and your child. Please feel free to stop in and introduce yourself or contact me if you have any additional questions.
