AMHERST ELEMENTARY - A GREAT PLACE FOR ALL CHILDREN TO GROW, LEARN, AND EXPLORE!

Principal's Message

Amherst is a community that has taken great pride in its schools. The district serves approximately 1,200 students, with 400 at Amherst Elementary School in grades 4K-4. . The district students are housed in one building. The Tomorrow River Community Charter School is located on a separate site at CWES. By having us all under one roof, it allows the district to share resources and offer unique experiences for our students. The school board, administration and staff work to foster a collaborative partnership with parents and community. We have the privilege and responsibility to serve as facilitators for the nurturing and development of your amazing children; academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to providing opportunities, which will assist children in making thoughtful and responsible decisions when solving problems. Thank you for your interest in Amherst Elementary. I look forward to getting to know you and your child personally. Please feel free to stop in and introduce yourself and contact me if you have any questions. We are here to help and excited to meet you! ~ Elementary Principal, Mrs. Sherry Oleson

Appealing Curriculum

Reading

We believe in a balanced approach incorporating phonics with Whole Language principles. We individualize instruction through a "Guided Reading" program and "Words their Way" word study program. We follow the Wisconsin State Standards and currently are using the Journeys Curriculum.

Mathematics

We believe in developing a deep understanding of number-sense, basic facts and skills, and a problem-solving focus with our instruction. We follow the Wisconsin State Standards and currently are using the InVision Math Curriculum.

Enrichment Opportunities

We believe in the importance of educating the whole child. To accomplish this we value the special subjects of art, music and physical education. We also place an emphasis on technology and promote the use of technology in our instruction. Students grades 1-4 have access to Chromebooks continuously throughout the day.

Social/Emotional Development

We believe in a school behavior plan developed around character traits that allows the students to reflect upon their behavior. A daily morning message delivered by the principal or student reinforces these character traits. We believe in recognizing positive behavior.
