STUDENT MEETINGS:
Monday, June 6: Girls Basketball meeting at 11:00 in the commons.  Everyone that plans on playing please attend.  Coach will be handing out summer schedules.

Monday, June 6: Meeting for all incoming AP Literature students in Mrs. Slattery's room at 11:10 today. If you cannot make the meeting, you will need to see Mrs. Slattery to collect your summer reading.

HS Band & Choir students: Our end of the year celebration "Wucherer Water World" will be TODAY during 5th hour.   If students do not have a 4th hour class, or if your teacher allows you to leave,  you can come early. We will start serving food @ 2:00 pm.

Spanish Club members: Voting for next year's officers is now open in the Club's Google Classroom. If you are a new member and need access to the Google Classroom, please see Profe Glaze. Voting is only open today. Buena suerte to all those running for office!

Reminder to All Band students: This weekend we play for Graduation on Saturday. Be ready, on the field, by 10:30 am. We also march in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday at 10:00 am. ALSO: High school band needs to be at Graduation practice at 10:00 am on Friday. Teachers, the class roster will be sent in an email. 

An announcement will be made around 9:30 to dismiss students for the senior walk and will walk out by the cafeteria doors. 

All library books are due back by May 31.

Sectional Track Meet @ Little Chute:
Leonie Chabbert, Estella Brown, Lia Peterson, and Saige Peterson set the school record in Girls 4x800m Relay, with a time of 9:57.87 and placed third, advancing to the State Meet next Friday.
Estella Brown, Hannah Wall, Lia Peterson, and Saige Peterson beat the school record last night in the 1600 meter relay by more than 9 seconds. 
Hannah Wall set the school record in the High Jump, clearing 5' 2", placing third and advancing to the State Meet next Friday.
Lauren Bird won the Girls Shot Put with a throw of 41 feet 7 inches, winning the event by more than 18 inches, advancing to the State Meet next Friday. 

Softball Regional Final @ Oconto:
The Lady Falcons dominated the Blue Devils and came away with a 5-1 victory to win the Regional Championship. The Lady Falcons will travel to Peshtigo on Tuesday to take on the Bulldogs at 5 pm in the Sectional Semifinal. 

Final regular season Baseball game @ Mosinee:
The #1-ranked Division 3 Falcon Baseball team traveled to Mosinee to take on the #2-ranked team in Division 2. Many eyes were on this outstanding non-conference, late season game. The Falcons did not disappoint, coming up clutch in the later innings to take a 4-2 victory over Mosinee. The Falcons finish their regular season with a perfect 24-0 record. Amherst Baseball will host St. Mary's Catholic on Tuesday at 4:30 pm on Tuesday.

On Tuesday the Amherst Track team competed in the Rosholt Relays.  The girls team finished third while the boys team was crowned Boys Team Champion. Now on to Regionals next Monday. Champions for Tuesday night included:

Monday Amherst competed in the Weyauwega-Fremont Open track meet. The men’s team finished 4th out of 10 teams while the women’s team finished 3rd. This Saturday the following champions will be competing in the conference championships:

TRACK Recap: Yesterday the Amherst Track Team competed in the Tri County Invitational.  Both the Boys and Girls teams finished third.  There were many high finishes and some new personal records under very tough weather conditions. Congratulations to all the athletes! Champions were:

Amherst Softball wins a tough pitchers duel to beat Wittenberg Birnamwood 2-0. Haley Peskie pitched a two-hit shutout to earn the win. Sydney Jastromski's RBI single and Payton Jastromski's double were the only hits for the Falcons but enough to get the victory. Amherst returns to conference play as Shiocton comes to Amherst on Friday.

Testing Day: All 10th graders will be taking the social studies Forward exam on Thursday 4/21 during first hour. You are responsible for bringing a fully charged chrome book to school for testing first hour. Room assignments are posted on the window. 

Ladies Lifting: Any female in grades 7-12 who is interested in summer strength and conditioning, there is a sign up in the high school office. Lifting times will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 10:30am-Noon. Starting June 13! If you have any questions, please let Mr. Karl know. 

Track Results: A number of athletes were missing last night but the Track team still managed to finish 4th among 10 teams for girls and 5th among the boys out of 10 conference teams.  Champions last night included Hannah Wall in the triple jump with a new personal record, winning by nearly a foot.  Lauren Bird won both the shot put and discus.  Her shot put distance of 41’ 11” smashed the school record by more than a foot and a half.  The existing record was held by Katy Rutz going back to 2011. Congratulations to all!

The Spring Band Concert is one week away! Band Students, remember to attend these extra lessons at the end of lunch. Percussion & Woodwind players are Tuesday at 11:05.  Brass players are Thursday at 11:05.  You will be done in time for your thirrd hour class.  Teachers, please dismiss these students 5 minutes early for lunch.

Tomorrow is the mock accident at the fairgrounds.  We will begin bussing students over at approximately 8:50.  There will be two rounds of buses taking students.  Your teachers know which group you are in.  The weather will be a bit chilly in the morning.  Please dress appropriately for the weather.  Also, feel free to bring a seat pad or blanket to sit on since the bleachers are concrete.  You will be under the overhang, so if it is raining, that will not be a factor.

Congratulations to all HOSA members who took part in the state competition this weekend.  You were great representatives of Amherst!  The team of Jenna Morgan, Sara Breed, Gracie Zanella, Haley Peskie, and Taylor Modzrewski took third place in the state anatomy tournament.  Taylor also qualified for the national competition by taking second place in Nursing Assisting.  Congrats!

Congratulations are in order for the hard working art students that competed in the Visual Arts Classic regional competition at UWSP on Friday. They worked on a long-term project fitting the prompts provided on this year's theme of Art & Line. Then they completed a 3-hour onsite artwork challenge at UWSP. Both projects were judged while the team played in a Quiz Bowl on 10 artists who represented linework.  Kudos go to Aleda, Jen & Alyssa for qualifying for state! Ms. Kaycie wants to thank the whole team for their responsibility & initiative in navigating the competition while she was sick! When you see these hardworking artists, please congratulate them!

Congratulations to our Amherst Bowlers, who competed in State last weekend. The Boys Team finished fourth out of 26 state teams. Juniors Blake Heinz and Marcus Borgen bowled a perfect 300 game in the Doubles tournament, too. And congratulations to Abby Giddings who competed in the Individual girls tournament and finished 22nd out of 59 state qualifiers. Good job, Falcons!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING ACT TOMORROW:

Freshmen: Report to the gym at 8:00 a.m.  You need to keep anything that you need during the day with you.  This includes your Chromebook, backpack, writing utensil, etc.  You will NOT be able to go to your lockers before 1:00 p.m.  Group assignments will be posted on the office window.

Sophomores: Report to the gym at 8:00 a.m.  Be sure to have your lunch with you if you are bringing your own.  You will also need a mask while you are indoors at UWSP.  Your bus will be leaving at 8:15 a.m.  Dress appropriately because you will be outside a lot!  Bus assignments and group assignments will be posted on the office window.

Juniors: Please make sure that you get a good night sleep and have your Chromebook charged and ready.  Breakfast will be provided in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30 a.m.  It would be a very good idea to leave your Chromebook on the charger in your ACT testing room at the end of the day today.  This way it will be charged and ready for you!

Ultimate Frisbee: There will be open gyms right after school.  This week we’ll meet in the high school gym.  These open gyms will be on Mondays and Wednesdays until spring break. 

Congratulations to all music students who took part in solo and ensemble this past weekend.  You all did an amazing job and were excellent ambassadors for Amherst!  Results will be posted outside the music wing.  Class A events with a score of starred first advanced to state solo and ensemble, which will take place at UWSP in May.

On Sale Now! Tickets for the Amherst Music Department's production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA go on sale today in the high school office. Performances will be at the Jensen Center at 7:00 pm on March 17-19 with a 2:00 matinee on Sunday, March 20. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

This is a call for Amherst’s creative ideas! We will be working with Milwaukee-based artist John Kowalczyk to create a mural in the cafeteria during 4th quarter. Check your email for more information from Ms. Kaycie, videos linked to his work, and plans of how he plans to collaborate with any Amherst student that is interested in working on the mural! Ultimate Frisbee is starting up next week, with open gyms on Monday and Wednesday after school. These open gyms will be a casual, fun way to get a glimpse of what Ultimate is all about. If you think you might want to play in the spring, go check out those open gyms to meet the team!

Students Who Drive to School: Please remember that there are cameras out in the parking lot.  These cameras cover from School Street to the parking lot/bus loop entrance as well as the entire parking lot. Any disorderly driving that is reported will be confirmed on camera.  If confirmed, the footage is turned over to our liaison officer to issue a citation. All disorderly driving will be cited.  Please remember that whipping donuts, burnouts, speeding, etc., would all count as disorderly driving.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hush Hearts: Today, girls will pick up a paper heart this morning from the library and write their name on it.  You tape it to your shirt and wear it until you talk to a boy.  The first boy you talk to of the day gets to wear the heart for the rest of the day.  Talking doesn’t count if it’s related to class.  Tomorrow boys will pick up hearts in the library and it will be vice versa. 

Winter Formal tickets will be available later this morning in the high school office.  Ticket prices are $8 presale or $10 at the door.

Wrestling Wrap-Up: The Falcon Wrestling team traveled to Wautoma for the Division 2 regional this weekend. Polar Plunge team members: We just passed the $3,000 mark! All team members need to see Mr. Swan to grab a waiver and a field trip permission slip if you want to go to the event. There will also be one last meeting tomorrow at lunch to finalize details and make sure everyone is ready.

Congratulations to Lia Peterson! This weekend Lia competed in the first ever WIAA Girls State Wrestling tournament in La Crosse. She represented Amherst well and went 3-1, placing third out of the 26 female wrestlers at 107lbs. Although Lia's goal was higher up on the podium, Lia represented herself, her team, family, school and community with class, and it was noticed by a lot of spectators and competitors. Make sure you congratulate Lia when you next see her on her status as the  "First ever female State Wrestling Placewinner in Amherst History!"

Lunch Students: Please remember that you need to stay in the cafeteria area until the bell rings.  If you have a meeting, then you need to stay in that area until the bell rings, or if you return your tray early, then you need to stay in the cafeteria until the bell rings.  The only bathrooms that should be used are the bathrooms in the cafeteria.  Students are not allowed to go to their lockers during lunch.  If you have permission to go to a teacher’s classroom, then you need a pass.

Quiz Bowl for today has been canceled and rescheduled for Friday.  Students will be released at 11:45.
