ON TO STATE!!!
The Amherst Varsity Boys bowling team won their sixth conference championship in a tight race with the Iola/Scandinvia team and the Amherst Varsity Girls team. There was only a 2 game difference between the first and third place teams. The boys finished with a record of 73 – 26 while the girls finished with a record of 71 – 28.
On Sunday, February 20, both teams competed in the District 9 Finals Tournament. The Amherst Girls finished first among the five girl’s teams and earned their first trip to the State Tournament in March. The Amherst Boys finished third among the nineteen teams in the Coed Division and earned a trip to the State Tournament for the third straight year.
Amherst also had five bowlers qualify for the State Singles Tournament. District 9 will be sending four girls to the Singles Tournament. Amanda Garavet, Nicole Kleutgen, and Stephanie Cieslewicz were the top three qualifiers from District 9. Mike Ehr and Brad Cieslewicz will be representing Amherst among the Ten boys from District.
New this year is a State All-Star Tournament to be held in April. Amanda Garavet, Nicole Kleutgen, and Stephanie Cieslewicz were also named to the Girl’s All-Star team and Mike Ehr was named to the Boy’s All-Star team. These teams are made up of the 5 girls and 5 boys with the highest strike/fill percentages. The coaches of the All-Star teams will be named at a later date.
The State Tournament will be held at Ashwaubenon Lanes in Ashwaubenon on the weekend of March 4 – 6. The Singles Event will be held on Friday night at 7Pm. The girl’s will bowl on Saturday morning at 9:30 am and the boy’s team bowls on Saturday at 1:30. The top 5 teams in each division will bowl in step-ladder finals on Sunday afternoon.
