"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being." (Johann W.von Goethe)
Hi, I teach 8th grade science. Our 8th grade science class is all about the Earth. That means we explore geology, meteorology and astronomy. I hope that students in my classes will not only learn how our "home" planet operates but will also develop respect and appreciation for the amazing processes that support life and provide for all of our needs right here on this special little planet.
I also get to teach Outdoor Skills and Community Service classes for 8th graders. I enjoy encouraging students to get out there - in a canoe, on a bike or as a force for community improvement. It's a thrill to work with students as they meet greater challenges than they believed were possible.
My greatest desire as a teacher is to help students become confident, creative thinkers. I believe learning experiences should be fun and as authentic as possible. I try to get students outdoors or at least out of their seats to do some type of hands-on activity whenever possible.
So why am I this kind of teacher? When I was a kid, I spent my school days yearning to be outside of the school walls. This is why I have an undergraduate degree in Outdoor Education and Earth Sciences from Northland College in northern Wisconsin. I also earned a Masters of Education degree from UWSP. I try to travel to new places of geologic significance at least once a year to further my background for teaching. Most recently, I rafted down the Grand Canyon.
I am proud to be a teacher in the Tomorrow River Schools. This is a great community where our students come first!
